The hat that sat on his head

The hat that sat upon his head,
An awkward hat, of black,
Pushed to the side.
Only the cool cats wore them during the day.
What's happening Baby? Can you dig the scene?
With the hat of black, with the little tassle at the top.
The beatnick may call it a tam, but nonetheless
It meant something different.
It was a sign of the times,
When cool was cool, and hip was hip.
You paid your dues, or you had to lose.
So with that hat upon his head, he dug the scene,
With the hat that sat upon his head.
