The Arab League (AL) on Wednesday denied news highlighted by certain dailies and magazines on the delegation of special committees to follow up preparations underway for a referendum in the Western Sahara or to bridge differences between Algeria and Morocco concerning the situation in the Sahara.

AL spokesman Talat Hamid said in a statement on Wednesday that reports of the AL's involvement in this respect are groundless.

There were media reports that the AL has assigned a special committee to follow up developments in preparation for the Moroccan Sahara referendum, according to the Houston agreement signed between Morocco and the Polisario front with the mediation of UN negotiator James Baker.
