Subject: IRQ-NEWS: Iraq seeks Egypt's help at U.N.
CAIRO, Nov. 21 (UPI) _ Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tareq Aziz has asked Egypt to help bring about a peaceful solution to the current crisis with the United Nations over arms inspections when the U.N. Security Council meets to decide on a Russian proposal on the issue.
Aziz met Thursday in Cairo with Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa and the head of the 22-member Arab League, Esmat Abdel-Meguid, to discuss Baghdad's confrontation with the United Nations.
Moussa said Aziz has proposed that Egypt helps, as a member of the
(U.N.) Security Council and for its leading role in the Arab world,
in moving toward ending the crisis in a comprehensive way within the
framework of the Russian proposal when it is presented to the
Council.
He said Cairo is satisfied to see the crisis winding down with the start of the return of the U.N. Special Commission (UNSCOM) weapons inspectors, which has a mandate to eliminate weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
