Labor Talks to Begin in September

North Africa Journal, 2 August 2000

ALGIERS—The government, labor unions and employer representatives are expected to meet in September to kick off a new round of negotiation on wages. The nation’s wage policy is being the subject of in-depth review that began months ago in an effort to adapt it to the new social and economic conditions prevailing in Algeria.

Observers expect that changes in the wage policy would lead to salary increases in the upcoming fall season.

Officials say that the goal of this policy review is to readjust wages so as to adapt them to household spending and spending structure.
