Internet for NGOs in East Africa !

A dialog on Africa-IT list, 19 November 1997

I think it would be valuable for Afrik-IT list subscribers to contribute some comments on the project outlined below - this is of particular interest to IT people working in Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Mozambique. I am curious about the degree to which indigenous IT professionals, ISPs, etc. will be taking part in this project, or if it consists largely of non-Africans providing services which *may*(?) be taking work away from indigenous IT professionals. Thus far the proposal mentions only partners from France and does not mention any specific involvement of IT partners in the countries targeted for the initiative.

The project letter indicates that "Indeed our project, that will be financed by several multi-lateral and bi-lateral cooperation programs (World Bank, Foreign Affairs Ministers)."

Please send your comments to the infodev-l@bellanet.org list and/or the organizer listed below.
