There were 42,200 persons nemployed in Mauritius by mid-2000, the Central Statistical Office said in a report released Tuesday in Port Louis.
The unemployment rate was estimated at 8 percent in 2000, spreading 5.6 percent for males and 12.6 percent for females.
It said total employment increased by 4,000 persons over the 1999 figures of 495,800 to reach 499,800 in 2000.
According to the report, the total labour force, including 14,600 employed foreigners, was 542,000 at mid-2000.
This showed an increase of 11,300 or 2.1 percent over the 1999 figures of 530,700.
The male labour force stood at 352,400 while that for female was 189,600 at mid-2000.
