Gets Islamic History Centre Opened

Port Louis, Mauritius - The Islamic Society of Mauritius has officially opened an Islamic history centre in the southern town of Moka, an official of the centre said.

Anwar Cara said the centre was opened Tuesday in Moka, 20km south of Port Louis, to preserve and promote Islamic history in countries of the Indian Ocean.

It would also "undertake research on the arrival, presence and contribution of Muslims in the social and economic development of Mauritius".

There are some 200,000 Moslems among Mauritius' population of 1.2 million.
