COSATU meeting with Swazi Union postponed

Tindzaba/News. 6 February, 1996

JOHANNESBURG - A meeting between the Congress of SA Trade unions and Swaziland's largest trade union federation scheduled for Wednesday afternoon was postponed until Thursday after the Swazi delegation arrived later than planned.

Cosatu and the Swaziland Federation of Trade Unions will discuss the situation in the troubled kingdom following the recent nationwide strike called to demand the institution of a democratic, multiparty system in the cvountry.

The Swazi delegation included SFTU general-secretary Jan Sithole and president Richard Nxumalo.

Cosatu representatives will include assistant general-secretary, Zwelinzi Vavi, and the head of the organisation's international department, Bangumzi Sifingo.

Swazi unions have threatened a repeat of the crippling strike if no progress is made towards democratisation in the country.
