- From the Bio Itza Committee, 19 November 1996. As the last
indigenous inhabitants
of the Petén's forest, the Maya Itzá have
fought to maintain the forest, culture and language of
their great civilization. Since 1991, when the Biósfera
Itzá reserve was founded, this organization has
pioneered the conservation of the environment. Appended
is an open letter from the Ecologic Development Fund,
16 December 1996.
