The Question of BET and the Payoff

By Paul Farhi <farhip@washpost.com>, Washington Post
Monday 22 November 1999

You know what? I definitely agree with those who are raising their voices against BET. Johnson is exploiting Africans just as any other AMERICAN BUSINESS CAPITALIST would. He don't get props from me just because he is Black. Here he is making real money, but he won't pay his people. The article says he don't even pay for their air fair. This is disgusting.

Just because Black people watch the program, we don't know or want to know the intricate workings of this company. We are so hesitant to call one of us out when we screw up. So damn what if it's the only show in town. Folks need to pool their resources and create another source. Bump Johnson, move on and do their own thing, the right way.

But perhaps you can't be riding in those expensive cars and living in those upscale houses and keep summer homes and loft apartments in N.Y. if you just be fair, huh?

Peace

Ifama
