Now, it's time for Atheists to set Sen. Lieberman straight on the
Last Tuesday, Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Joseph
Lieberman, in a "faith and values" lecture at Notre Dame University,
declared once again that Americans do not enjoy freedom FROM religion,
and that this is a nation firmly rooted in Judeo-Christian values.
American Atheists President Ellen Johnson told the Los Angeles Times
that Lieberman has his facts wrong -- the Constitutional separation of
church and state does guarantee us freedom FROM religion, and that
religion has been an oppressive and divisive force throughout history.
Our greatness as a nation rests, in part, on the degree to which we
have embraced the ideals of the Enlightenment -- freedom, Reason,
American Atheists is urging nonbelievers and supporters of state-
church separation to contact Sen. Joseph Lieberman and help set him
straight on the record!
