Report warns of alarming status in Iraq, Pt. 2

Agriculture: sunpest control activities, food and mouth disease control, supply of animal vaccines, and agricultural inputs for improved food production; Kerosene: winter fuel requirments in the North; Health and Nutrition: increasing numbers of vulnerable groups, mainly children, are dying of simple ailments because of malnutrition and acute shortages of medicines and medical care.
UN seeks $39.9m for emergency aid to Iraq
Baghdad Observer, 30 September 1996. The United Nations is appealing for $39.9 million to meet the most essential needs of the vulnerable population of Iraq for the next three months. Emergency requirements until the oil-for-food deal signed between Iraq and the UN, May 20, which allows for the sale of limited quantities of Iraqi petroleum for humanitarian purposes, is implemented.
New statistics on Iraqi deaths as a result of the sanctions
Arabic News, 30 December 1999. 1.4 million Iraqis of all ages have died during the past nine years because of the embargo imposed on Iraq. Mortality rate among infants reached 108 per each 1,000 births, and mortality among women of reproductive age has reached 296 for each 100,000 births.
