ANC statement on situation in Israel

Issued by the African National Congress,
4 March 1996

The African National Congress reiterates its full support for the peace process in the Middle East, and in particular between the Isrealis and Palestinians. The ANC denounces any attempt to undermine the peace process through violent or any other means.

The bombings in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem have to be the work of those with little respect for peace, who are bent on achieving their aims through terror, rather than peaceful dialogue.

These atrocities cannot be allowed to derail the efforts of Isrealis and Palestinians to achieve a just peace.

The ANC appeals to all in Isreal and Palestine to expedite all efforts at arriving at peaceful and lasting solutions to the region's problems.

The ANC expresses sympathies and condolences to the bereaved families, and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.
