Police Detain Leaders of Underground Religious Group in Hubei

[CND, 02/23/02] Police raided a underground religious group named the Wilderness Narrow Door last month and detained key members of the group, the South China Morning Post reported on Saturday, quoting the China News Service.

The detainees were accused of setting up meeting points and churches in various townships in Hubei and Sichuan province. The group has developed a membership of 1,000 since February 1999.

Authorities have categorized the group as an evil cult. Other outlawed groups include Blood and Water Holy Spirit, the Spirit Church, the Disciple Association, the Oriental Lightning, the Born Again Movement, and the Crying School. (Dong LIU)
