Chinese Province Starts Reforms of County Government Organs

HEFEI, September 6 (Xinhua)—The reform of government organs at county level started recently in east China's Anhui Province, which is also pioneering the country's rural tax-for-fee reform.

According to guidelines approved by the Anhui provincial government, payrolls of various government departments at county level will be cut by 10 to 28 percent.

The reform is a must for the government to change its functions and improve its efficiency under the market economy. It is also a necessity for streamlining the civil service force and cutting the costs of governments, the guidelines say.

The reform is expected to be completed at the end of the year.
