[Sources of information for the DPRK]

By Vincent K Pollard, H-Asia list, 23 July 1998

On the question about information, let me suggest, among other sources, the following URL:

http://www.kcna.co.jp

That will take you to the website of the DPRK’s Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

According to the KCNA, it speaks for the Workers Party and the Government of North Korea. Its webserver is in Japan, courtesy of Korea News Service in Tokyo. The website opened on 17 January 1998. The home page has an English-language section, as well as Choson Tongsin. I have visited it three or four times during the past eighteen months, including tonight. The KCNA website carries official statements and press releases and has been visited some 370,000 times.

There are other e-mail discussion lists, as well, that focus on the Korean peninsula. Below are two more URLs and an an e-mail address:

Korean Web Weekly http://www.kimsoft.com/korea.htm

Korean Information Center http://kowin.kois.go.kr

Nautilus Institute nautilus@netcom.com
