Basque Separatist Website Worries Spanish Police

Agence France-Presse, 22 November 1997

MERIDA, Spain (November 22, 1997 Agence France-Presse) - A Spanish police official said Saturday he was concerned about the presence of a Basque ETA separatist website on the Internet, and urged web users to try to erase the group's pages.

"Anybody who logs onto the network and types the word ETA or any other word connected with it gets information provided by that organization through servers in other countries," said Anselmo del Moral, chief of the Civil Guard's computer fraud division.

Speaking at a cyber-crime summit here, del Moral said the Civil Guard had found ETA activists using the Internet to communicate amongst themselves with coded messages.

He called on Internet users to thwart the ETA by saturating its website pages, but to be careful to do so anonymously.
