Gay and lesbian unionists organize

Unite! Les/Bi/Gay/Trans Workers Victoria, Press Release,
Workers Online, 8 June 2000

The first meeting of Victoria's new cross-union gay and lesbian union members' group will be held at Trades Hall tomorrow (Thursday).

This meeting follows the first Midsumma Festival celebration of gay, lesbian and transgendered trade unionists which took place at Trades Hall on 20 January this year. Approximately 30 people took this opportunity to come togather and meet other gay, lesbian and transgendered unionists over drinks.

Following the success of that event, Victorian Trades Hall Council together with GLAM (Gay & Lesbian Australian Services Union Members), and other unions, invite all interested gay, lesbian and transgendered union members to a meeting to discuss the issues we face as workers and unionists.

This will be an opportunity to discuss the establishment of an ongoing group and to develop plans for future actions and campaigns.

The Victorian government's recent withdrawal of the Transgender Rights Bill is sure to be high on our agenda.

IT'S TIME!

Join us on THURSDAY 8 JUNE 2000 FROM 6PM in the EXECUTIVE MEETING ROOM, VICTORIAN TRADES HALL (VICTORIA STREET ENTRANCE), 54 VICTORIA STREET, CARLTON SOUTH VIC 3053
