Teachers’ strike in the south-west

According to the Haiti Press Network of 12 November, teachers in the town of Jérémie have begun their second week on strike.

In the south-western town of Jérémie, teachers are on strike for a second week to press their demand for the replacement of the departmental education director, M. Jean Richard Joseph. Questioned by journalists, M. Joseph suggested that the teacehrs want his head because he is fighting corruption in the department (Haiti is divided into nine administrative departments). He asked the teachers to end their strike for the good of their pupils and to be at peace with their personal conscience. (source: Haiti Press Network)
