Jericho Organizing Committee, 13 October 1997

Here is a copy of the RESOLUTION FOR CONSIDERATION BY THE CONGRESSIONAL BLACK CAUCUS SEEKING RELEASE FROM PRISON OF MONDO WE LANGA, ED POINDEXTER, AND ALL OTHER IMPRISONED VICTIMS OF COINTELPRO ABUSES. This resolution was presented to Maxine Waters and other members of the Congressional Black Caucus interested in US political prisoners, in September, when the Black Caucus was holding a retreat. The material was carried to Washington, D. C. by Dianne Myers, Co-Chair of the Lincoln (NE) Justice Committee. Here's the text:

"WHEREAS, the Congressional Black Caucus defends and promotes human and civil rights, and

"WHEREAS, the Congressional Black Caucus condemns the criminalization of political activity and expression as a method of political control, and

"WHEREAS, the Congressional Black Caucus condemns abuses by law enforcement agencies and agents of same which are designed to stifle political beliefs, and

"WHEREAS, the Congressional Black Caucus is aware of the abuses perpetrated by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) under one of its programs known as COINTELPRO, which targeted of organizations dedicated to principles of democracy and social justice, and

"WHEREAS, the Congressional Black Caucus is aware that to date all efforts pursued in our courts to free Ed Poindexter and David L. Rice (now known as Mondo we Langa) and many other victims of COINTELPRO abuses have failed, and

"WHEREAS, the Congressional Black Caucus deplores that each victim has now spent more than 20 years in prison while the real perpetrators of these crimes are still free,

"NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Congressional Black Caucus calls for Congressional Hearings on the COINTELPRO abuses which resulted in the imprisonment of these persons."
