Sichuan Cracks Down on Cigarette Smuggling, Counterfeiting

CHENGDU, February 3 (Xinhua) -- Since last July west China's Sichuan province has been cracking down on cigarette smuggling and counterfeiting with success, according to sources from the local administration for industry and commerce.

Statistics show that illegal goods from 10,943 peddlers selling cigarettes without licenses, 18,453 cartons of counterfeit cigarettes and 1,024 cartons of smuggled cigarettes were confiscated.

The province's public security bureaus and industrial and commercial administrative bodies combined their efforts and made checks on 9,583 markets, 8,988 businesses and 45,985 cigarette selling outlets.
