Russian trade union action day

UNI News, 10 June 2004

Today, June 10, thousand of hundreds trade union activists come out on the streets all over the Russia protesting reduction of social standards under motto “Say No to Reduction of Social Rights of Employees and Population!”.

Trade unions demand to pay wage areas, to increase salaries of employees in the budgetary sector for 50 %; to pass the law which will bring minimum wage to the level of leaving standards, to keep social guarantees and benefits, to continue functions of the All-Russian Tripartite Commission on regulation of social-labour issues and start urgent consultations with trade unions on the governmental proposals which are against social and economic interests of working people.

UNI Russian affiliates KAG, RCCWTU, RCWU and RASETU took active part in rallies and picket lines with also additional demands on sectors.

Russian Communication Workers Trade Union, RCWTU, protested rapid changes and restructuring in the Postal sector that could lead to the massive reduction of the employees.

Unions warned Russian authorities—if union demands will be not heard, there would be All-Russian One Day Strike organised in September this year.
